World Cup 2022 Vibes: Week 1
Let´s talk about FOOTBALL
I was thinking about starting this thing a few days ago so this are my thoughts about the first week of games, as I say in my spanish reports about football this isn´t a real tactical approach but more of my feelings towards the performance of the teams, basically the vibes.
Teams with the Best Performances:
Canada: To be honest I didn´t think of Canada as this team that could dominate a world class (an Old World Class) team like Belgium. The maple merchants dogwalked Belgium like no other team. The main issue was their finishing, it doesn´t exist. After watching three world cups this kind of team are really unlucky, painfully unlucky, because they get eliminated with a sense of injustice, it feels wrong. Hopefully they are capable of qualifying to the round of 16, but I´m very pessimistic.
Ecuador: Extrapolate the things I said about Canada but this time the team we are talking about has forwards that actually score. This team is electric, just absolute fun. This team might be a Dark Horse.
Spain: Yeah it was Costa Rica but they played the best football in the entire week. Luis Enrique´s twitch streams are filled of information from the main source about the preparation of a top flight team. Germany is the next big test for La Roja, I think they will win.
France: Pragmatism is key for this type of tournaments, and France is King in that type of gameplan. I don´t like them but I have to give them their flowers. Their individual pieces are just superior.
Brazil: Joga Bonito but his time for real. Neymar is a wizard, a cheat code.
Saudi Arabia: All Timer defensive performance by the players and an All Timer tactical set up from Hervé Renard. Argentina was outclassed and if you come here and tell me about the off side goals, it doesn´t matter, there are all off sides, without VAR Renard´s approach doesn´t work because the decision would be made by the human eye, in 2022 is a robot, a machine made only for that.
Hall Of Shame Performances:
Belgium: One long pass is what all Belgium needed to win, a horrible performance by the red devils. This was an injustice to the beautiful game. Vertonghen was treated like a dog in 1 v 1 situations constantly. De Bruyne is right, this team is too old to be a real contender and with performances like this they will need more luck, shithousery levels of luck.
Gerardo Martino´s Mexican National Team: Why the FUCK you don´t put a number nine when your tactics are long balls? Your attacking plan was Lozano and/or Vega dribbling between 2–4 argentinian players and see if they could score. What a fraud man, I saw this man having an horrible Barcelona stint, and his stint with Mexico is a daylight robbery to the Mexican Football Federation since Raúl Jiménez injury. I usually think Mexican media are delusional and throw unnecesary levels of hate to the head coach of their national team but this dude deserves all the critics, just shameless levels of coaching.
Costa Rica: Spain destroyed them, 7–0 is one of the biggest humilliations in the history of the tournament but I really can´t point where is the real problem. They just ate shit vs a team that was in a very effective day. All worked for Spain, Costa Rica was just there.
Best Match of the Tournament: Belgium 1–0 Canada (Goal: Michy Batshuayi; Min 44´)
If you want to feel the injustice and downright trolling of the beutiful game you have to watch this match. A masterclass from Canada in their first match back in a World Cup since 1986 that didn´t mean shit because football is a bitch. If I put a match rating for this it would be (****1/4) tremendous heel work by Belgium with tremendous heel heat spots like the unexistant offside followed by a clear penalty that wasn´t called by the referee inside their box.
