How I would want The Owen Tournament to be
Is more of a suggestion
The Owen in 2022 had a lot of good matches and some crazy moments thanks to Jeff Hardy and Darby Allin but I think this tournament should be the main tournament in american wrestling.
I think this tournament should work as a way to earn the main event of one of the four PPV´s, like the G1 works to earn the main event at the Tokyo Dome. AEW doesn´t have a main PPV, all the 5 are equal in importance but my idea would be that the guy who wins The Owen will main event All Out.
The location would be in Canada, I wouldn´t put a specific place but I would pick a different venue each year, for example you do it in Alberta this year then in 2024 you do it in Montreal. Also would be a 2 day event, the first day would be the semifinals and the second day would be The Finals, the reason I think of this 2-day format is because would get enough time to the matches to breath, sell the importance of the wins and looses as well that I think the Semifinals would draw really well and 2 big gates in the same city is great.
The issue with my idea is basically one, the tournament type events usually don´t draw that well PPV buys wise, I think this would be perfect as an special in HBO Max so they wouldn´t be giving away one of the 5 PPV´s and would have a big show in a platform that is big. But if you can´t get the show on HBO Max I guess they should try out in normal PPV.
I would do the show at the ending of July or beginning of August, the qualifyers and quarterfinals would be in July during the Dynamite and Rampage shows in Fyter Fest and Fight For The Fallen, and even if you want you can have qualifyers in some of the house shows. So I would do a tag match between the semifinalists in the go home Rampage before the 2-Day event and this is how I would order the cards:

- Opener: AEW World Championship multiman tag match
- AEW Women´s World Championship match
- SemiFinal Women´s 1
- SemiFinal Man´s 1
- SemiFinal Women´s 2
- SemiFinal Man´s 2
The Owen-The Finals (Day 2)
- Opener: Multiman tag match
- Midcard feud match
- AEW World Championship match
Double Main Event:
- Women´s Final
- Man´s Final
The thing is to give enough time to build tension and selling the importance for the Semis and specially the Finals, NJPW with the G1 in the block finals and then the Final is the perfect example. Let the things breath is important.
