Biased Thoughts: AEW Dynamite #189
Moody Center, Austin. Texas. 4,5k Tickets Sold. May 17th 2023
The show starts with the Wardlow and Christian Cage, this was straight to the point and I liked it. No more to say and the stip is for sure a ladder match between this two.
Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin vs Big Bill & Lee Moriarty (***3/4) Big Bill and Lee Moriarty are such a tremendous midcard tag team and Orange teaming with Darby is always a fun time. Great stuff.
Sammy Guevara with a squash and a promo that was okay. FTR and Jarret & Lethal segment that personally was funny.
Toni Storm & Ruby Soho vs Hikaru Shida & Britt Baker (***1/4) Very good fast paced match that delivered with getting Shida over in her comeback as well of getting Storm a win. Hopefully that match is with a stipulation.
Roderick Strong vs Chris Jericho in a Falls Count Anywhere match (****1/4) This brawling in all over the arena type of match in AEW always hits, and boy this delivered the goods. Roddy Strong and Jericho worked STIFF that mixed amazingly with the usual goofiness of this type of matches in AEW. TREMENDOUS.
Jack Perry vs Rush (****) Rush is an animal that should be pushed/rewarded and with Andrade back hopefully he is in important matches. Jack Perry as the bloodied babyface surviving is his perfect type of match and Rush is perfect in that role.
Jay White vs Ricky Starks (***3/4) Personally I think this match was going GREAT with reversals, big moves and pins been kicked out at 2.99 and because I have watched a shit ton of Attitude Era matches, this was basically one and even had that kind of finish. We will see what they will do at the PPV but I need them with a microphone to heat up their match at DoN.
Don Callis entered the ring with the crowd booing the shit out of him, then the BCC attacked Omega but he had the Bucks backup but didn´t stopped. Hangman FUCKING Page is BACK with an eye patch looking like a bad ass and The Elite finally reunites and the match at DoN will be in the Anarchy in the Arena stip, BOYS we are in for a CLASSIC.
Rating of the Show: 8.5/10
The first hour was mid and I would say filled with the things that have felt out of place but the second hour is AEW at his best (Except the DQ) with tremendous creative matches that feel like only AEW can do in TV. Three back to back killer matches and an amazing angle to close one of the best episodes of AEW Dynamite this year.
Extra Notes:
- ALWAYS start with a match, the firs hour felt off because they started with a talking segment and even if it wasn´t bad there´s an energy that for example the tag match that followed gives to the show, a faster pace.
- The twist and turns in the Elite vs BCC storyline that can add more top class talent into the dynamic is what I wanted since this storyline was been set up.
- Please, give Jay White and Ricky Starks a mic. PLEASE.
