Biased Thoughts: AEW Dynamite #168
2 Hours. 5k Tickets Sold. December 21st 2022
Ricky Starks kickstarts the show and we setup a new feud between him and the Jericho Appreciation Society and I´m into it. Not only because we actually have a follow up that is weird for the way Khan books but goes back to the roots of AEW of everything feeling connected. GREAT.
The Elite vs Triángulo de la Muerte in the Fifth match of the Best of 7 Series for the Trios Championships in a No DQ match (****) This was a ton of fun, using new weapons like an artificial tree was tremendous and filled with exciting spots.
Hook killed a jobber, is great to see him in Dynamite and after that Stokely Hathaway appears on the titantron and basically show us how they destroyed Jungleman Jack Perry. This story progresses and is going really well.
Jon Moxley vs Darius Martin (**3/4) Fun little match, the BCC heeling it up a little is great, this dudes love blood and to torture so bullying the young lads creates tremendous content.
FTR vs The Gunn Club (***1/2) Really good tag match with Gunn´s tremendous bumping mixed well with FTR way of structure a match. FTR are in a loosing streak, will be interesting to see what happens.
Rick Ross mediating the talk to be had between Swerve and Keith Lee and this segment started really well and then fell apart, that not even Rick Ross couldn´t save this been the entertaining man he is… Wow. The first real miss in a long while. At least we got Rick Ross saying “Motherfucker” on live TV.
Jamie Hayter vs Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women´s World Championship (****1/4) One of the best womens matches in AEW history if not the best, Hayter is giving me this Hangman Page vibes of having excellent World Championship matches when given the opportunity. Shida and Hayter delivered and deserved that main event spot. This match was so great, hopefully it popped a quarter.
Rating of the show: 8.5/10
Extra Notes:
- I want to see Jamie Hayter versus a lot of wrestlers inside and outside AEW, she´s starting her reign at an outstanding level, keep it going.
- Is great to have heels everywhere in the card, is needed specially with the amount of babyfaces AEW has.
- Young talent taking the spotlight and delivering, great to see.
- A lot of build up in this episode and it feels better than other weeks that serve of build up for other shows, great.
