Biased Thoughts: AEW Dynamite #158
2 Hours. 7,5k Tickets Sold. October 12th 2022
Jungleboy Jack Perry vs Luchasaurus (***1/2) The canadian crowd is amazing. Super fun match with exciting spots but Christian is always around making sure our hero the Jungleman doesn´t win. We will have to get some heat and cook our meal that is Jungleman beating the shit out of Luchasaurus and Christian Cage in bloody brawls.
WardJoe vs The Factory (SQUASH) Crowd pleasing squash matches is one of the best tropes of pro wrestling. Wardlow is the perfect example on that booking been effective. The Embassy vs Wardlow Squadron will be great, finally some big multiman matches for the men´s division.
Swerve Strickland vs Billy Gunn (*) I don´t really understand why don´t give Swerve a big victory humilliating Billy Gunn but ok. The match was just for the purpose of building a third match between SIOG and The Acclaimed, I guess will be a match with some stipulation. I would pick a 2 out of 3 falls match.
MJF with a really great and interesting promo, far from his usual low hanging fruit specials that are usually good too, but is time to have multiple dimensions in your character if you want to be a compelling World Champion.
Mox and Page said some words to each other before their World Championship Match, and boy it was great. Eventhough MJF is too over that his presence can derail the reactions of certain segments like this one at the tail end, I love the imagery of him been above this two because he knows, at the end, he will have that World Championship soon. Hangman said the real shit and I can´t wait for his match vs Mox next week.
Chris Jericho vs Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship (***3/4) Their trilogy is far from the best in ring wise but this storyline is strong enough to sustain the usual shennanigans of the evil Jericho Appreciation Society in almost every big match this feud has had. García betrayed Danielson, what will be the consequences?
Nyla Rose, Marina Shafir and Vickie Guerero were talking to Renee Paquette until Anna Jay interrupts them. This segment was by the books AEW classic way to set up matches but just a thing I really didn´t like, Vickie still being paired with Nyla when Nyla is a good talker.
Toni Storm & Hikaru Shida vs Jamie Hayter & Britt Baker (***3/4) Jamie Hayter get cheers even when she does classic heel stuff. This match was great and this tag matches have worked so much with the women´s division. Could get repetitive but the trick is adding different characters and mix the storylines between the people in the match. This is classic AEW booking that is coming back after a few months and I welcome it with open arms.
PAC vs Orange Cassidy for the AEW All Atlantic Championship (****1/4) This is AEW brother, tremendous storytelling seasoned with brutal bumps and exhilarating spots. A pay off for the fans of Orange Cassidy as well as Cassidy himself. Danhausen cameos to help his friends are great, and this one in particulare popped me a lot.
Rating of the show: 8/10
Extra Notes:
- This promotion is building towards something big, the thing is that we don´t know who will be the chosen one too defeat MJF. You can give it to Hangman but I think he will have hot feuds outside of the World Championship contendership, maybe Starks that hasn´t been on the shows but can get hot in a few months, Takeshita might have signed the dotted line, maybe Darby or they could run back Wardlow vs MJF that was awesome. Will be interesting too see what happens but I´m feeling we are approaching something great.
- Rush has been a team player but is time to plan something for him soon, the Andrade Family Office is still lurking around and that´s a stable that is a fun midcard act at times but really doesn´t fit Rush. Maybe creating a new unit or even better just leave him with José to be his english mouthpiece could be the way to go.
- Orange Cassidy is Champion and we are building to a feud vs Ethan Page, not that exciting but I guess as a midcard program going into Full Gear can have their moments.
- I need Starks in this shows, is weird that he and Hobbs haven´t been back. Hopefully both are back next week.
- This Wardlow Squadron vs The Embassy is a great midcard feud, perfect for every card and TV wrestling.
- Guevara vs García was a no brainer going by last week show, but with García realigning with the Jericho Appreciation Society this week, will be interesting too see the follow up because I´m not that sure that García is really with Jericho let alone Guevara that he clearly doesn´t like (In Storyline).
